Topic/Audience: Staying in the Green: Profitability and the Environment

Executive Summary

Sunbright Austin is a steel products manufacturer. In the past, they were industry leaders in setting new standards for environment-friendly production. In recent times however, they have had to downgrade to cheaper, not-so-eco-friendly technologies in order to stay competitive. The consequent violation of EPA regulations on their part invites the attention of WaterClear, an environmental organization.

WaterClear questions Sunbright’s new practices, and warns the plant manager that polluting the local river will cost Sunbright dearly unless some action is taken immediately. What follows is an effort mediated by the manager, to find a balance between Sunbright Global’s concerns about the Austin division’s profitability and WaterClear’s concerns about the environment.
